Configuring parameters

Start your browser and in URL field type https://10.200.0.1:8089/ to login to HotspotOS.

Username: admin
Password: admin

Press the Login button to access to Status tab.

On the HotSpotOS Status page, you can check AP MAC address, Public IP, device Uptime, Radius and Cloud status, and a number of users connected to AP.

The MAC address of your AP will be used in the SignUp process.

During SignUp, after typing HotSpot name, select as HotSpot model HotspotOS, and add your MAC address from the Status tab.

From the Setup page configure your AP.

The Hotspot is started and the Autostart and Inactivity Logout options are active by default.

Inactivity Logout is set to 900 sec. Inactivity period defines how long will the device stay logged-in without activity. This prevents repeated logins if connection temporarily breaks.

https redirect defines if https websites will be redirected to the splash page. Default and recommended is disabled, to prevent https browser certificate errors.

DNS Web Filtering – disabled
DNS Web Filter IP – 13.92.228.228
Auto Update – enabled

By default as Network WAN Connection is set DHCP, but you can choose network protocol based on your needs. Our recommendation is to use DHCP Network Protocol.

WiFi channels – Eleven channels are designated in the 2 GHz range, spaced 5 MHz apart from each other. Those eleven channels in the spectrum are allowed anywhere in the world.

DNS – Custom
IP – 10.200.0.1

Please note, if the DNS IP address isn’t 10.200.0.1 the whitelist will have no effect.

Save changes.

From the SSID tab, you can Enable SSID 1 and 2.
Configure the SSID name and enable it.
Secondary SSID 2 is mostly used for staff WiFi with WPA2 password but you can also enable Hotspot on it.

If you want to use Social network login feature or Paypal as payment gateway, enable it on the Whitelist tab and Save changes.

You can also whitelist websites based on URL, IP, or MAC.

From the System tab, you can flash HotspotOS image and change Admin password.

When you finish setup, restart the AP / WiFi router to apply changes.

1. Load Ramdisk via U-Boot

To set up the flash memory environment, do the following:
a. As a preliminary step, ensure that the board console port is connected to the PC using these RS232 parameters:
* 115200bps

b. Confirm that the PC is connected to the board using one of the Ethernet ports. Set a static ip 192.168.99.8 for Ethernet that connects to board. The PC must have a TFTP server launched and listening on the interface to which the board is connected. At this stage power up the board and, after a few seconds, press 4 and then any key during the countdown.

U-BOOT> set serverip 192.168.99.8 && set ipaddr 192.168.99.9 && tftpboot 0x84000000 openwrt.itb && bootm

Note that there is currently no method to return to factory firmware, so this is a one-way street.

The path from factory 3.0.0 and 3.0.1 (EnGenius) software to HotspotOS is to navigate to 192.168.1.1 on the stock firmware and navigate to the firmware menu. Then copy the URL you have for that page, something like https://192.168.1.1/cgi bin/luci/;stok=12345abcdef/admin/system/flashops
and replace the trailing /admin/system/flashops with just /easyflashops .

You should then be presented with a simple “Firmware Upgrade” page.
On that page, BE SURE TO CLEAR the “Keep Settings:” checkbox.

Choose the hotspotos-ipq40xx-engenius_ens620ext-squashfs-factory_30.bin, click “Upgrade” and on the following page select “Proceed”.

The path from factory 3.5.5 (EnGenius) software to HotspotOS is simply to use the stock firmware update menu. Choose the hotspotos-ipq40xx-engenius_ens620ext-squashfs-factory_35.bin and click “Upload” and “Proceed”.

The device should then flash the HotspotOS firmware and reboot. Note that this resets the device to a default configuration with Wi-Fi disabled, LAN1/PoE acting as a WAN port (running DHCP client) and LAN2 acting as a LAN port with a DHCP server on 192.168.1.x (AP is at 192.168.1.1)
